چکیده
Despite increasing pressures on freshwater resources worldwide, and the threatened status of most turtles, there is still limited knowledge habitat use niche partitioning in Afrotropical turtle communities. In this study, we describe associations, community diversity, temporal patterns occurrence species Dahomey Gap ecoregion Ghana (West Africa). We gathered data from 13 sites central along Sene Arm Lake Volta Digya National Park (Bono East Region). employed opportunistic short-term surveys (at seven sites) together with longer-term (six-months duration) standardized evaluations presence numbers different habitats six sites). Overall, a total 210 individuals four (Trionyx triunguis, Cyclanorbis senegalensis, Pelomedusa sp. Pelusios castaneus) were recorded; precise capture type recorded for 139 individuals, but 71 observed marketplaces not considered our analyses. At local scale, three sympatric various study sites. each these sites, dominant was either C. senegalensis or sp., latter being more abundant temporary waterbodies numerous permanent ones. A Multiple Correspondence Analysis suggested that, all associated similar physical variables. Canonical Analysis, showed that density herbaceous emergent vegetation important P. castaneus than senegalensis. Comparisons diversity metrics between previous studies revealed composition across savannah

متن کاملSerum antileptospiral agglutinins in freshwater turtles from Southern Brazil
In this study, we observed the presence of antileptospiral agglutinins in freshwater turtles of two urban lakes of Pelotas, Southern Brazil. Forty animals (29 Trachemys dorbigny and 11 Phrynops hilarii) were captured and studied. Attempts to isolate leptospires from blood and urine samples were unsuccessful. Serum samples (titer > 100) reactive to pathogenic strains were observed in 11 animals....
متن کاملCharacteristics and Risk Assessment of International Trade in Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles in China
– Commercial exploitation of freshwater turtles and tortoises has increased significantly in China since the 1990s, which has expedited the listing of some turtle species in Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix II. We assessed the risk to tortoises and freshwater turtles native to China by analyzing biological and socio-economic variab...
متن کاملTerrestrial habitat requirements of nesting freshwater turtles
Because particular life history traits affect species vulnerability to development pressures, cross-species summaries of life history traits are useful for generating management guidelines. Conservation of aquatic turtles, many members of which are regionally or globally imperiled, requires knowing the extent of upland habitat used for nesting. Therefore, we compiled distances that nests and gr...
